2013 Beauty Favorites!

As we approach the New Year, I'd like to share to you the products I've been loving for 2013. While most of it are new (about a month or two) in my collection, I consider them worthy to be included in this post. Enjoy!

Lorac Pro Palette. This is my favorite eye shadow palette. Nothing I own can compare to how buttery they are. When I first tested this out, I was in awe! I love that it has a good number of matte shadows which makes it very versatile. The packaging is lightweight and compact which easily becomes my go-to palette when I'm travelling.

Bobbi Brown Customized Eye Shadow Palette. My mom was actually the one who picked the colors for me. She did a good job in combining mattes, shimmers, and washes. I love this palette because of her picks! It has all the basics I need plus the packaging looks really sleek. In addition, Bobbi Brown is very generous with the size of these shadows.

MAC Painterly Paint Pot. For eye shadow bases, I love my Painterly. I use it either as a primer or just on its own to even out the color of my lids.

Bobbi Brown BBU Palette. I can't stop looking at this palette! I am so in love with this. It houses all the Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer shades and on the other side (not shown) are all of their foundation stick shades. I mainly use this to contour and highlight my face since it has all the shades I need in it. I love how compact it is and just... EVERYTHING!

Bobbi Brown Corrector. This is my holy grail product. Whenever someone would ask me what's the best product to hide dark under eye circles, I would 100% recommend this. It is so creamy and the peachy shade does very well to counteract darkness under my eyes. Just recently I noticed the pan peeking through and it was a bitter-sweet moment for me. Bitter because it's not exactly affordable, and sweet because it has been a long time since I have hit pan on anything!

Shiseido Powder Foundation. I know Shiseido has different product ranges for their powder foundation and I can't remember what this is because I've had it for years now; I think since college. I've recently rediscovered this and forgot how good it was until I used it again. It was mattifying but does not make you look dead. I plan on using this more often so I can finally finish this up and buy a refill.

Tarte Exposed. I am a major blush junkie but nothing beats this blush as an everyday shade. Most of my blushes have some form of shimmer on them and most days I don't feel like having shimmer on my face which is why I love Exposed so much. It gives off a natural mauvish color which I am obsessed with. I haven't tested out the 12-hour claim but this really does stay on for hours.

Guerlain Meteorites Perles. If you've been following my earlier posts, this won't come as a surprise to you. Seriously, I love ALL of my meteorites! I can't explain it. It's very subtle, you can barely see it unless you come really close. But when you look at yourself in the mirror, there's just this glow that you can't pinpoint. It is luxurious and the packaging always blows me away, specially with limited edition ones.

Makeup Factory Eye Brow Powder. This year I have discovered the brow product that changed my life. I know that sounds so dramatic but I've had so many brow products I've tried out and it just doesn't cut it. I first discovered this when my mom left her kit on my vanity. And curious as I always am, I tried it out. I was so amazed that I immediately took a bath, got dressed and went to SM to get my own stash. Haha. It was that good. With this you don't have to take a damp brush because it is very pigmented. And I like that it has 2 shades in it so I can mix it to match my hair.

Benefit Gimme Brow. Although I don't use this as much, this is my favorite eye brow gel. I've already blogged about this product so head on over to that post to find out why I love this!

These lipsticks are my top picks for the year. I've been on a nude and MLBB lipstick kick for the past few months and I've found some of my favorites this year in the YSL Rouge Voluptes, Rouge Pur Cotoure, and Too Faced La Cremes. They are all pigmented, doesn't suck out all the moisture on my lips, and looks great against my skin tone. These lipsticks have been much raved about and I'm so happy I joined the bandwagon because they are really worth it.

MAC 217. I think it is safe to say that this is everybody's favorite blending brush. As they say, it is dupable but can never be replaced. So far I've only tried Sigma's version of the blending brush but the MAC 217 is just better in my opinion.

Sigma Precision Brush. I love using this brush to apply my eye shadow bases and for blending out cream products in general. It is very dense and soft and the weight of the handle is just right.

Guerlain Kabuki Brush. I use this mainly to apply my bronzer. It looks huge and this is the biggest brush I own but I love it. I haven't noticed it shed and it feels great against my skin.

Shu Uemura Blush Brush. I used to prefer an angled brush to apply my blushes but since I've used this, it has changed my preference. I have a MAC one that is a bit similar to this but the Shu Uemura blush brush is just different. It's lightweight and is ergonomically easier to apply blush. I plan on getting the regular sized one and discovering more Shu Uemura brushes.

NARS Contour Brush. I know this brush has a fancy name but I forgot what it is so I'm just calling this my contour brush. I use this to define my cheek bones and the sides of my nose. The shape makes it easier plus it looks so cool!

Tom Ford Cheek Brush. This is so fluffy! I first thought it was going to be too big for my face but I loved it from the very first time I used it. The hair feels so luxurious on my skin and the shape is perfect for a quick sweep on the cheeks since it covers the right area.

xxxxxxx

There you go guys, my year ender favorites! I am so excited for 2014 because new year means new makeup. LOL. Just kidding. I'm letting my hoarder tendencies get in the way again. But seriously, I'll never get tired of makeup because there is always something new and that there is always something out there in the market waiting to be discovered.

Wishing you all the luck for the upcoming year!

NEW LOVES: Too Faced La Creme Lipsticks

These lipsticks did not disappoint. This is my first time trying out any products from Too Faced and the minute I put these on, they're an instant favorite. Love!

Too Faced describes this as a creamy, color drenched lipstick that is hydrating, soothing, and conditioning. It is vegan friendly and Paraben free.

I noticed that there's a trend now for gold tube lippies. I like the matte finish on the La Creme packaging because you wouldn't have to worry about it getting scratches, specially when you're carrying it around your purse. One thing I'm most pleased about is that the cap closes off tightly so it's really travel (and purse) friendly. It has a nice weight to it, like a YSL lipstick; it feels really luxe.

The colors I chose were more on the everyday type because I needed such in my arsenal. To non makeup addicts these may look pretty much the same but to me it just gave my lipstick collection a lot of variety. And it seemed like the perfect formulation for everyday wear because it felt really moisturizing. It feels very comfortable on my lips specially during application. Speaking of application, it glided on so smoothly like butter. It was love at first swipe! It delivered an even coat with one swipe and the pigmentation is great for a moisturizing lipstick. Usually with such formulation you'll find the shades too sheer but the La Creme's pigmentation was actually good.

Too Faced doesn't claim this as long-wearing and I do note that it got completely wiped off after eating. Also it has a tendency to settle on the fine lines of your lips though it's not that noticeable.

I know, I know.. It all looks the same. These are the types of shades that I love!

NAUGHTY NUDE

Naughty Nude is a chestnut shade. I noticed it slips and slides on my lips. And since it's a light color, it is quite noticeable. I suggest not pressing your lips too much to avoid color migration. When I first saw this on the store, I was certain it won't look good on me; it looked too ashy for me. But I'm glad I took the risk. I finally found the perfect nude for my skin tone. This didn't wash me out.

SPICE SPICE BABY

Spice Spice Baby is a pinky brown lipstick. This shade is the perfect color for my pigmented lips. It's definitely my MLBB ("my lips but better") lipstick. My lips are this shade naturally and wearing this lipstick did not look like I was wearing anything at all. It does not emphasize dry patches on the lips, which, by the way is consistent across the four shades I own.

CINNAMON KISS

Cinnamon Kiss is a spiced brown shade. It looks very similar with Sweet Maple on the photos. The latter is actually darker in person. Cinammon Kiss has more mauvish pink tones in it.

SWEET MAPLE

Sweet Maple is a plum brown shade. And the plum tones are more apparent if you look at the lippy in actual. It is the darkest of the four shades I have but it's not overpowering when you wear it. It still looks natural and wearable.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I think everyone will find a shade that will suit them. These are one of the best lipstick formulations I've ever tried and I wouldn't think twice of getting all the shades. Ehem. That's the hoarder in me talking. It was so soothing on the lips even after swiping and removing it for the purpose of this review. I really love them and I can't wait to get more!

Beauty Blab: Powder Blushes I use the most!

Out of all the drawers in my vanity cabinet, my blush drawer has got to be my favorite. It's such eye candy! :) When I was just starting getting into makeup, I was a total blush hoarder! It's the first thing I look at whenever I visit makeup counters and stores. My goal back then was to collect every shade they had. Well, with a limited budget, that didn't materialize. Teehee.

I thought I'd share with you blushes that I reach for the most. What I look for in a good blush is blendability and longevity. All of the blushes here are easy to blend. Longevity wise, I wish the Benefit Boxed Blushes would stay longer on my cheeks. Nonetheless, I love all of them. <3

When I'm picking out blushes I'm going to wear, I usually base it on my mood. When I'm aiming for that sun kissed, just got back from the beach kind of look, I pick blushes with gold tones like the NARS Luster. When I'm feeling a bit dull, I gravitate towards cool toned blushes.

Out of the bunch, I'd say my favorite would be Tarte Amazonian Clay in Exposed. It's a natural mauvish shade that is great for everyday wear. Plus I love that it's matte because most days I really don't feel like having glitter on my face.

What blushes do you reach for the most?

My thoughts: Benefit Gimme Brow and a Comparison with MAC Brow Set

Benefit Gimme Brow
I am a brow conscious freak and I have a nasty habit of over plucking my brows. Some days I find myself looking into a magnifying mirror, plucking away stray hairs thinking ooh, this looks so much better. And then I pull out from the mirror and realize how crappy it looks. I know all of us had horror stories like this.

My brows are that one thing that really frustrates me. Up until now I still haven't found that routine to perfect the shape and look of it.

Benefit Gimme Brow
Benefit says this product is water resistant, long-wearing, natural-looking, and buildable. It is a brush on fiber gel for the brows. Basically this will help in grooming your brows, making the hair stay in place, and giving it a tint. It comes in only 2 shades which I thought was very limiting.

Benefit Gimme Brow
I got mine in light/medium. The other shade was obviously too dark for me, specially because I had my hair colored to a lighter shade. I wish Benefit would come up with a broader color range. Brow gels are kinda tricky because you have to take into consideration your hair color. I like how light the shade is but it turned out looking ashy on my brows.

Besides the color range, I love everything about this product. The itsy bitsy brush head is perfect and makes it really easy for me to go back and forth, coating all the strands. I'm usually apprehensive with brow gels because of my experience with the MAC brow sets but this one wasn't intimidating to use. It applied evenly and left my brows tamed but not flat. Many have claimed it as volumizing but I haven't really noticed that.

MAC Brow Set vs. Benefit Gimme Brow

MAC Brow Set and Benefit Giime Brow
My first brow gel was the MAC brow set. Size wise, MAC takes the cake. I wish the Gimme Brow was this big. The two are very different not just in the amount of product. The brush head shape and size differences are very notable, as well as the color range.

For me, I like Benefit's brush better compared to MAC's. In my experience, the tapered brush makes it easier to get to the inner part of the brows and easier to coat the tiny hairs. Application of the Brow Set was quite difficult for me. It always looked uneven and patchy. The brush packed on too much product which makes it feel thick on my brows. I know you can just rub the excess off on a paper towel but isn't it just a waste?

However, what I do love about MAC's brow set is that the shade makes the brows look multidimensional because of the flecks of shimmer. Whereas the Gimme Brow is just matte.

Final Thoughts:

Benefit was on point when they described this product. It looked natural, and lasted all day on my brows even when I was sweating. Applying it was really fuss free and easy. Even though it deposited an extra amount of product on the wand, it applied evenly thus eliminating product wastage. It held my brow hairs in place and made it look really neat. What I'd love to see is more color variety and more than just 3.0g of product.
